long synopsis
Evolution of male sexuality through puberty to adulthood. A boy and a girl play together under a flyover. Fallopian moths fly from her skirt and chase him into a swimming pool. He emerges with misplaced hands and genitals and walks alienated landscapes.
Years later, the childhood sweethearts meet again in the city nightlife. Back at her flat, there is a failed sexual encounter. The following day, through unusual means, they begin four years of emotional and sexual gratification…

Karl Cresser
biography
Karl studied film at Surrey Institute and the Welsh Film School but is a self-taught animator, based in London. He worked for two years with Tim Hope, director of Coldplay’s notable music videos, before co-creating Origen’s Wake with Waen Shepherd for C4 Comedy Lab.
Sucked Up is his first project as sole director.

process summary
Computer animation and treatments, live-action DV and blue-screen.
Made using a (Dual Athlon 1.2G) PC and a miniDV camera. Experimented with passing the material through various software processes. Blue screen live action shot on DV and keyed in Discreet Combustion.
3D animation done in Discreet 3ds Max and composited and graded in Combustion. A DVD-ROM of Quicktimes taken to Automatic Television for output to Digibeta using DPS Reality.
Sound design and music made in Cubase.
