Simon Faithfull
biography
Born in Braziers Park, Oxfordshire – Simon Faithfull is the product of a utopian experiment in communal living. He studied art first at Central St. Martins and then went on to do an MFA at Reading University.
In 1996 he made the part-animated Isle of Dogs for the BBC’s 10×10 series. He founded the digital arts organization e-2 in 1998 which commissioned 9 web-based commissions including Word Perfect by Tomoko Takahashi and Cruisin by Susan Collins.
Simon’s drawings and installations have been in numerous national and international solo & group exhibitions over the last seven years. His practice as an artist has been as varied and unstable as some of his experiments, ranging from installations such the Hertford Union (where he punctured the Chisenhale Gallery’s wall to pump in water from the unseen canal) to video works such as 30Km (which uses a camera attached to a weather balloon to record a journey from his face to the edge of space).
The other side to his practice utilises a Palm Pilot as a crude drawing device that enables digital sketches to be made in situ and dispatched out to the world via email or the web – the Palm Pilot becoming a kind of psychogeographer’s mapping tool.
In late 2004 he started a two month journey to Antarctica from which he is sending back a drawing a day via email. Later in 2005 this and other film work made in Antarctica will be collected together to form a national touring exhibition.
He is a part-time lecturer at Goldsmiths College, and lives in London.

A series of original drawings made with the artist’s Palm Pilot, on location at the A13 trunk road. These are then layered and assembled through Photoshop and Image Ready to produce a series of animated gifs, that are in turn edited and overlaid via Final Cut Pro into a complete film.
