animate! Studio

Saturday 31 July 2004 15:00

An animate! session of films and discussion at the Whitechapel Gallery revealing the diverse network of animation studios & artists meshed into the creative weave of the East End of London. The afternoon starts with two filmmakers practising in the area who have both received recent animate! commissions.

Tim Hope, currently completing his animate! commission, is famous for the prize-winning fantastical The Wolfman (2000). He will premiere his One Thousand Steps (2003) which manipulates footage shot in and around the City and East End.

Ian Bourn has been working in video since 1978. The East End of London, where he was born and still lives, is also the site of his work - Black, White & Green (2003) for animate! is set in a traditional eel and pie house.

The afternoon will continue with discussion and other films made within the area which exemplify animate!’s agenda to challenge the boundaries of animation. The session is a part of The East End Academy Film programme, developed from the Whitechapel’s ongoing Open Screenings initiative to encourage discussion between audience, filmmaker and organisations.
