Animated: Moving Portraits of the Self and Other 1
Thursday 8 July 2004 19:00
The first of three animate! evenings at the National Portrait Gallery, London, exploring portraiture and the dynamic medium of animation. The sessions will showcase some of the most striking, innovative and exploratory works of contemporary international animation. Writer and Time Out film critic Gareth Evans will be in discussion with filmmakers and cross-platform commentators to consider the unique way in which animation, the manipulated moving image, investigates and can amplify notions of portraiture.
From the Home, along the Road, to the Woods and Beyond: an Animated Argument
From the familiar to the disturbed, from everyday sites to extraordinary zones, the portrait is revealed to be a far from rigid construct, less a stable arrival than a bold journey into intriguing new ways of seeing.
The artists screening and discussing their work will be Robert Bradbrook Home Road Movies, George Barber Withdrawal and Ann Course Rotting Artist.
There will be two further film evenings on 16 September and 14 October.
